SCOW acquires a new cruiser - in Annapolis!

06 May 2025 6:50 PM | Anonymous member (Administrator)

The Board of Directors of the Sailing Club of Washington is so excited to announce that it has acquired a third Catalina 250 Sailboat! After spending several months looking for a replacement for Rebecca, the Boat Asset Committee has found and purchased, “Offline,” a 2001 cruiser identical to Hiatus and Lion’s Paw II.

But the exciting news doesn’t stop there!

For more than a decade, members have been asking SCOW to keep a boat on the Chesapeake Bay. Since Offline was located on Kent Island, and given the current financial health of SCOW, the Board of Directors felt the time was right to expand SCOW’s footprint and give keeping a boat on the Bay for use by its members a one-year trial. “Offline” is now at its new home, Nautilus Point Marina, in Easton, Maryland, just a few minutes from Annapolis.

Currently:

  • We have several SCOW members who have volunteered as bosuns to oversee the care and maintenance of the boat.
  • We plan to keep Rebecca at WSM for one more year.
  • The “Bay Boat” will be available for use by all members provided they are sailing with a SCOW certified skipper.
  • There will be planned River and Bay raft ups on the Chesapeake Bay, open to all SCOW members.
  • We are planning a commissioning party and naming ceremony at Nautilus Point Marina, so stay tuned for details.
  • We will have another boat naming contest this month!
Of course, there will be additional training for Cruiser Skippers on boat operations and Bay navigation. Skippers can expect a separate email soon outlining the details.

Thanks to Cruiser Maintenance Director, Joe Caminiti and his assistants, who have made all of this happen, from finding the right boat, working out all of the (many) details, and sailing the boat from Kent Island to its new home. Please give Joe a pat on the back for a job well done when you see him.

I hope you are excited about this new sailing opportunity. The Board of Directors is committed to ensuring that having a cruiser on the Bay is a positive experience, accessible to all SCOW members.

Sincerely,

Lynn
