Welcome to SCOW Racing

Any SCOW member in good standing can join the racing activities. Activities include race crew, race committee and otherwise qualified SCOW skippers can, with a few additional requirements, command SCOW's cruisers and Flying Scots in SCOW sanctioned races. These races occur weekday evenings and weekends throughout the sailing season.

As part of your membership submission you can enclose the completed Racing Program Interest Form that is downloadable as an MS Word document here. The form is also available at member meetings and the annual Re-Up event.

Weeknight Racing

On Tuesday evenings, according to a schedule maintained by the Daingerfield Island Sailing Club at www.di-sc.org, some or all of the SCOW cruisers are funded and crewed by SCOW to participate in races of cruisers from all over the river in accordance with the Performance Handicap Rating Formula and US Sailing's Racing Rules of Sailing. Contact the Race Director at race@scow.org to sign up for more details as the DISC may have made changes.

On Wednesday evenings for 20 weeks starting usually (weather permitting) the third week of May, SCOW races its fleet of Flying Scots in an open competition focused on basic race tactics, strategy and a strong focus on education of boat handling and race stewardship in accordance with US Sailing's Racing Rules of Sailing. Scow's Race Director is a US Sailing Certified Race Officer and ensures that lessons learned in the Wednesday races will be valuable throughout a racing career.

Weekend Racing

On weekends, according to a schedule maintained by the Daingerfield Island Sailing Club at www.di-sc.org, some or all of the SCOW cruisers are funded and crewed by SCOW to participate in races of cruisers from all over the river in accordance with the Performance Handicap Rating Formula and US Sailing's Racing Rules of Sailing. Contact the Race Director at race@scow.org to sign up for more details as the DISC may have made changes.

Also, on the Chesapeake Bay, usually via Annapolis, MD, opportunities abound for SCOW members, often sought for their skills in race signals, boat handling and safety, to sail in the many PHRF or One Design Rule fleets on the bay on Saturdays and Sundays all year long. With a completed Race Program Interest Form from you, the Race Director will add you to a database of crew or skippers available, including their skill sets, for Chesapeake Bay racing opportunities.
